UPDATES

Hey there everyone! Welcome to Caption Who. Here's a bit of backstory for you.....

What's captioning you ask? It's where you take a picture and
put a silly, funny, or downright goofy comment under it! It's definitely
not a new or unusual thing: captioning and Doctor Who have been
together for decades! In the very first issue of the Doctor Who Magazine
in 1979, readers were invited to riff and joke with pictures from
everyone's favorite science fiction program. It continued off and
on in the zine for several years until it finally faded away. But even now
in the zine you'll see nutty little captions on pics, having fun with the show.

We fast forward a few years to the Sci Fi Channel website, where
its Caption This! section allowed members to make fun of
whatever SFC programming happened to be playing at the time.
A number of members (including myself, using the nickname "GlitterRock")
started referring to themselves as "Cappers" and we formed a
close-knit online community. Eventually SFC showed the Paul
McGann TV-Movie, which led to my own excitement for capping
Doctor Who.

And finally, we're here. Present day. After Caption This! finally
closed up, I decided to start my own captioning venue online where
people could enjoy making fun of programming: Glitter's Cap-Page Board!.
And naturally, Doctor Who was always going to be on the schedule.
These captions are from my main caption gallery. What I've done here,
though, is repackage them for a DW fanbase. Every two weeks you
can expect to see five new pages of captions from the classic series, the
new series, or one of the 'sideways' other eras. As I said on the main page,
if you like what you see, head on over to the main gallery to check out
thousands of other captions on many other subjects. In here, though,
enjoy a slightly-skewed romp through the Whoniverse!

10/1/08:
We have six more pages of "Klepton Parasites" madness this week (starting on page 717). The Doctor and the kids escape from the Kleptons, manage to rally the Thain prisoners, and start to fight the invaders! 'Bout damn time, too. Next update we'll bring an end to our first comic-strip capping, and return to our regularly-scheduled TV adventures run ... with "Time And The Rani!"

One of the Cappers over at the Cap-Page Board (which is where we all caption the series, if you didn't know) had a great suggestion for me to start giving little announcements here as to what's coming up for captioning (WHO-wise) -- in case you're interested to come in and join the fun for yourself. So here's what we'll be capping over at the Board for the next few weeks (dates may vary by a day or two):

September 7: "The Extortioner" (another Second Doctor comic adventure!)
September 30: "Pyramids Of Mars", parts 1 & 2
October 5: "The Trodos Ambush" (another Second Doctor comic adventure!)
October 9: "Pyramids Of Mars", parts 3 & 4
October 18: "The Android Invasion", parts 1 & 2

9/17/08:
There's EIGHT pages of four-color funnyness in this week's update! "The Klepton Parasites" continues (starting on page 709) with more happening to the Comic-First Doctor and John and Gillian! This time around, they take the fight to the Kleptons -- who promptly capture them. Klepton One explains his plan, and John pulls a deus ex machina out of his pants!

9/4/08:
We've got not five, not six, but SEVEN pages in this week's update! (starting on page 702)! The comic adventure "The Klepton Parasites" continues, as those Kleptomaniacs keep attacking the planet of the Thains. Some interesting things you learn courtesy of the Cappers this time 'round: fast facts about Gillian's skeleton, learn about the intricacies of Klepton fonts, Mattteus teaches us about aspidistras, and meet up with Young Kelsey Grammer!

8/21/08:
We get some more done with "The Runaway Bride" in this update (as well as a couple of bonus riffs from 'The Parting Of The Ways' with Captain Jack Harkness) (starting on page 696) then take a bit of a break from the last pages to segueway into the 'something different' I mentioned. For the last few years, the Cappers over at the Cap-Page Board have been riffing on comic books as well as TV shows -- and Doctor Who's definitely been a part of that as well! So here's the kickoff to the start of the comic strip fun, beginning of course with the very first story, "The Klepton Parasites!" We see the First Doctor and meet his two prococious grandkids Gillian and John, and see the start of their adventures together. Since there's fewer pics in the comic adventures onscreen (i.e. not as many as the regular TV pages, so I don't tax those with low bandwidth/processors) I went and added in an extra page to at least let you see the TARDIS end up on the planet of the Thains. In that vein whenever the comics are shown, there'll be six pages in the regular update instead of five! So, enjoy the story, and look for more unpleasantness with Johnny next update!
Also, I've collected the latest big batch of pages into their own respective sections (in the Plain Menu, 601-700 have their own area; and in the Normal Menu, the last 25 pages are located under the Polly Wright (no relation of Barbara) banner).

8/7/08:
We've got a ton more fun with "The Runaway Bride" this update (starting on page 691). There's alot to learn this update, including: important car information about LadyLoxley's mum, how TheDiva plans to solve contact problems at her wedding, cajunmagic extolls Tim Curry's acting range, a huge karoke running-gag, and a special appearance by the Almighty God! Next time, we'll have more with the DoctorDonna, as well as the start of that sumpthin' special I teased at the last update.

7/24/08:
It's a big "goodbye/hello" update this time around on Caption Who (starting on page 686)! We wave bye-bye to Rose in 'Doomsday' (don't worry, she'll be back) and say hello to Donna in 'Runaway Bride' (who'll also be back). Other than that we have the usual amount of crazyness, including: Jackie Tyler playing Charades, special appearance by the last great George Carlin and the SFC Summer Of SciFi logo, some truly horrifying "Runaway Bride" imagery. Next update we'll have more from 'Bride,' including the Racnoss Queen, maybe a 'lil Saxon -- and if that story gets finished, something completely different!

7/10/08:
It's a couple of days early, but here's the latest update! (starting on page 681) Now that Rose has returned from the alternate-universe in the fourth season, it's time to get a-capping on the story where we saw her go: "Doomsday." Rose's boobs certainly get a workout in this season-ender... as well as: Dalek/Cyberman smacktalk, champion thumb-wrestling, some death jokes at alter-Pete's expense, poor Kenny Baker, and an amusing filk on a John Mellencamp song. Next time we'll continue with more from this story ... and possibly move right on into "The Runaway Bride!"

6/28/08:
We continue with the penultimate story of the 2006 season, "Army Of Ghosts" (starting on page 676). Lots of fun abounds in this update including David Tennant checking out Colin Baker's ass and Camille Coduri's boobs, the unspeakable power of Teri Garr, some foot tickling, and lots of amusing Capper photomanipulation captions! Next time, we'll finish up with the story and move straight on into "Doomsday."

6/14/08:
My Aunt Mary gets alot of love with the new captions in the "Fear Her" gallery (starting, ironically enough, on page 671 as we finish that story and jump straight into "Army Of Ghosts." Lots of interesting little things are in this update, like the BBC TARDISCam's return, how you can wear out a blue crayon, Jackie Tyler's amazing regenerating kitchen, a LazyTown character appears on the show, and the awful truth about hedgehogging.
And as always, the last 25 pages of captions have been collected into their own sub-section -- accessible through the link with adorable 'lil Dodo Chaplet!

5/31/08:
We're a few days early with this update like last time, but you don't mind do you? We finally break down and gets into nasty, blubbery Absorbaloff-ickyness in this update (starting, ironically enough, on page 666) then jump right on into "Fear Her," ending with an extra-sized, extra "-icky" page!
And it's time to jump back into the Inbox with another query in ....
Now let's have another email from ... LETTERS TO DOCTOR WHO!
QUESTION: You don't seriously consider "Dimensions In Time"* canon, do you?
* feel free to substitute "Real Time," "Death Comes To Time," the McGann-"Shada," etc.
ANSWER: Boy, you're really gonna get pissed off when I start fitting in the TV Comic strips, aren't ya?
Canon is in the eye of the beholder. There's three schools of thought:
a) "One of the things you'll learn is that it's all real. Every word of every novel is real, every frame of every movie,
every panel of every comic strip."
"But that's just not possible. I mean some books contradict other ones."

(the Eighth Doctor and Trix from The Gallifrey Chronicles)
b) Time War. WHUUMP! A Dalek surface-to-air missile hit the web of time, changed history. Which means that "Search Out Science" never happened, and K9 never learned "We Wish You A Merry Christmas." Tragic, isn't it?
c) In the words of Mystery Science Theater 3000, "Just repeat to yourself: 'It's just a show. I should really just relax.'"
Naturally, here we lean towards c). This site isn't here to draw a firm penstroke on what is or isn't canon. There's countless other places to do that. This place is here to say "if it's got 'Doctor Who' on it (or alongside it), it's open for making fun of." Which means you'll see all sorts of silliness here, both official or un-.

5/20/08:
There's more love for "Love & Monsters" in this update (starting on page 661) -- a few days early no less! Sure, you have to suffer through a number of shirtless Elton shots ... but at least the Abzorbaloff doesn't appear until the last page, and even then for only three captions. So that's a good thing, right?
Look for more "L&M" next time, and possibly the start of "Fear Her!" 5/10/08:
We finally put a bullet in the head of "K9 And Company" and put it out of its misery in this update (starting on page 656) . After that, we've going into Tenth Doctor overdrive as we start an uninterrupted run of the final five David Tennant stories from 2006. We kick it off with "Love & Monsters," and honestly... if you've been coming here semi-regularly you already know what kind of treatment we're going to be giving it!

4/26/08:
Our fun fest on the "Planet Of The Daleks" finally comes to an end this update (starting on page 651) . And we move right on to the precursor to "The Sarah Jane Adventures:" the pilot for "K9 And Company!" Next time around we'll continue with Sarah, K9 and Brendan -- and maybe get started on "Love & Monsters."

4/12/08:
More fun on the "Planet Of The Daleks" continues this weekend (starting on page 646) . We have a few laughs at the expense of color and the lack thereof, enjoy some Dalek hijinks, cajunmagic has a problem with his monitor, and TheDiva makes a mistake concerning Matlock and MacGyver that anyone would make... probably. Next time, look for more fun on Spiridon and maybe (just maybe) the start of riffing on "K9 And Company!"

3/29/08:
The "Planet Of The Daleks" gets more Capper-love in this update (starting on page 641) . This time around, look for MrfnordTim to explain what's up with Katy Manning, check out some Time Lord/Thal graffiti, a complete loss of colour, and ask yourself why there's a coatrack and buttons on a Dalek ship.

3/15/08:
Tons of laughs in this weekend's update! We bring an end to "The Satan Pit" (starting on page 636) with more good Ood stuff, the real origin of The Beast, and LadyLoxley's aim taking a turn for the worse. Then we start on the huge Third Doctor epic "Planet Of The Daleks" which doesn't take place on Skaro, believe it or not! Jo gets alot of pain heaped on her by the Cappers, poor thing.

3/1/08:
The fun on Sanctuary Base just keeps on getting funner as we continue with "The Impossible Planet" (starting on page 631 ) and head right on into "The Satan Pit!" Look for tons of Ood jokes, and a nice shot of Billie Piper's posterior.
Now let's have another email from ... LETTERS TO DOCTOR WHO!
QUESTION: Why aren't there more Tom Baker/Peter Davison/Colin Baker/Sylvester McCoy shows captioned?
ANSWER: Buzz off, kid!
The real answer is very simple. The Cap-Page Board is showing the 'classic' series in order ... taking regular breaks whenever the newest season of the 'new' series begins. Right now we're three stories into Tom Baker's run, so it'll be awhile till you see regular Fifth/Sixth/Seventh Doctor galleries. But that doesn't mean they're not being ignored. Last year we showed "Time And The Rani" outside of the regular run, and to celebrate the "Time Crash" special we did "The Awakening."

2/16/08:
Here we are with more funny stuff from the TARDIS! This weekend we finish up "The Idiot's Lantern" (starting on page 626 ) and jump right on into another Tennant adventure, "The Impossible Planet!"
And let's answer another email in... LETTERS TO CAPTION WHO!
QUESTION: There's a lot of Coming Soons listed in the Menu By Doctor section. A LOT. Hell, all of Tennant's second year in fact! When'll these show?
ANSWER: Get off my back!!
Sorry, snapped. Better now. The Coming Soon-tags are my way of saying "these are what we've captioned and will be appearing." All of the Coming Soons are definitely coming! "Soon" is variable (as any type of chronal determination is when it comes to time travel). I try to alternate updates between 'classic' and 'new' stories so that one doesn't dominate over the other; except this time, when I opted to show another Tennant story instead of the next Jon Pertwee one. And that includes the Other Eras programs (like K9 And Company and Torchwood, for example).

2/2/08:
It's time for more fun with the Whoniverse! We wrap up "Frontier In Space" (starting on page 621 ) -- and bid farewell to the first Master Roger Delgado, and get started on the second Mark Gatiss-penned new series story "The Idiot's Lantern!" I've also taken the last 25-pages and put them in their own section, under the banner with poor, departed Katarina.
And let's answer another email in... LETTERS TO CAPTION WHO!
QUESTION: Why are some screengrabs smaller than others?
ANSWER: You're asking alot of questions. Are you a cop?
Another simple answer: The first screengrabs showcased here (the TV-Movie, waaaaaaaaay back at the beginning on page 1) were originally captioned on the Sci-Fi Channel's late- lamented website Caption This! The dimensions of CT's screen captures were 160 pixels by 120. When I started showing Doctor Who over at the Cap-Page Board in 2002, I kept the screengrabs at that size. Over the years, though, we've started making the screen captures a bit bigger. There you go, question answered.

1/19/08:
Here's five more pages of utter, absolute WHO-harity (starting on page 616) as we continue with "Frontier In Space!"
We get a few emails asking questions here at Caption Who (sometimes on the same subjects), so I've decided to start answering a few publicly in case you're wondering the same thing! So here's the start of.... LETTERS TO CAPTION WHO!
QUESTION:You've capped all of the "available" Troughton stories --
but why's there such a huge uncapped gap in the Hartnell era?

ANSWER: Mind your own business, that's why!
Actually, this answer's pretty simple (and far more pleasant). In the early days of the Cap-Page Board, we only captioned 4-part stories of "Doctor Who", in one big block. Therefore we skipped over alot of the 5+ parters during the Hartnell years. By the time we started captioning Patrick Troughton's time, we got into the rhythm of captioning stories 2 episodes at a time (which we still do to this day), which made the longer stories like "War Games" much easier to get through. Don't you fear, Hartnell fans: those stories will get their day in the sun eventually.

1/5/08:
Welcome to another year of Who-capping! This page just got a whole lot shorter, as I've moved all of last year's updates to their own listings. We kick off January with the end of "The Age Of Steel" (starting on page 611). There's more Jackie Tyler bewbage to laugh at, a Calculon performance you'll all enjoy, we get the appearance of Team Guyver, and the phrase "the balls of time" enters the Who-lexicon. We also get started on the Jon Pertwee epic "Frontier In Space," where you find out just how dangerous flour can be ... and that Jo really can't handle the truth.
I've also went and added a new link to the LINKS section (and cleaned up some dead ones): Velvet Jacket, an awesome site with some of the most beautiful fan-made covers for the BBC-released classic adventures that you'll ever see! Check it out, you'll love it.
